Propolis is a resinous mixture that bees produce from plant secretions, tree resins, and wax. They use it inside the hive to seal cracks, coat the walls, and keep the colony clean.
Propolis contains over 300 identified compounds, including flavonoids and phenolic acids.

New Zealand propolis stands apart through its high concentration of CAPE (Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester). This compound is found in the bud and bark secretions of native trees and is a defining feature of the New Zealand beehive.
